With so many changes of levels and uneven surfaces, this family garden drastically needed help. Our brief was to create a heated covered area for dining, a play area with bonded rubber, sensory elements, paving that was sympathetic to the features of the house and easy- to- care- for bullet- proof planting. Quartzite random length flags stones echo the sandstone window quoins while at the side of the garden we have mixed in clay pavers to add further warmth to the space. This mixing and layout of paving saves the space from being swallowed up in a sea of single type paving. The dining area sits under a timber pergola with 6mm Perspex glass as its roof, allowing light in and keeping the rain out. Planting includes Umbrella trees to cast shade and many of the plants have sword- like foliage to survive stray footballs. We installed a willow tunnel at the end of the bonded rubber play area, which includes a hammock, monkey bars, trapeze and a stainless steel water wall water feature.
