Front To Back

This beautiful house, off the Antrim Road, required its front and back gardens to be renovated in 2016. The client had a young, expanding family and needed to maximise their back garden space to incorporate play frames, a new lawn with drainage, bedding and an area for entertaining. Whereas the front garden craved a more formal feel. Unfortunately there’s no before photos of this project, the back garden space was on multiple levels with lots of steps, not child friendly and completely paved with old grey concrete flagstones. We excavated 15 builders skips of spoil, levelled the area, built Donegal quartz stone retaining walls, installed a sandstone patio and paving that circled the lawn for bikes to circle round. The lawn has linked in drains and the play area has artificial turf. Simple timber arches allow the Wisteria and Clematis to scramble across and frame the view and lights highlight the planting and wall at night. The front garden once full of worn faded concrete paving has SMA tarmac, edged with granite setts and new granite bull nosed steps. We used a green and white planting scheme bordered with Box hedging to give a fresh contemporary vibe.
